OUR THOUGHTS ON UTOPIAN & DYSTOPIAN

UTOPIAN

In our point of views, utopian is a philosophical term that explains about something that is beyond of our eyes. We believe that the concept of utopian or the utopian world does not exist in this world. This is because, if we look at the meaning of utopian, it possesses something that is related to perfection. That means, if the world is being credited as utopian, that world must hold the hundred percent of peace, hundred percent of happiness, and hundred percent of everything. This means, that world is perfect. Whoever is meant to live in that world, will have the opportunity to grab a very perfect life.

In our thoughts, the idea of utopian in this world can only exist in fairy tales or in fictional world. This is because, in a fictional world, man has the right to create the perfection in the settings and characters of a certain fictional work. As the literature students, we have come across this concept through the literary work. In that case, we some how believe that the fictional world is the only place where the idea of utopian can rely on. For example, in the fairy tales ‘Cinderella’, the main character Cinderella is managed to marry to her prince charming, and live happily ever after. However, it will not be as perfect as the utopian created by Allah.

Moreover, as Muslims, we believe that the utopian world only exists in the heaven which created by Allah the Almighty as a reward for His obedience creatures. Only Allah has the power to create the perfection of something as He is the Omnipotent creator of the universe. As we mentioned earlier, the concept of utopian is actually beyond of our eyes. This is because, only Allah alone can produce something that is comprehensive and perfect as He is the Omnipotent creator.

DYSTOPIAN

Dystopian is actually the opposite version of utopian. That means, if utopian is something that can be related to heaven, dystopian must be something that is related to hell. When this term first come across in us, we imagine that dystopian exist as hell. That also means, there will be many imperfection aspects in the world of dystopian. That is also mean, whoever is meant to live in the world of dystopian, that person will have the most suffering and distressful live ever.

By referring to our views about utopian, that it might be existed in the work of fiction. Similar to dystopian, where we can find some literary works that portray the dystopian life experienced by the community. For instance, the novel ‘1984’ by George Orwell. In this novel, the citizens of that particular country is living in a so called dystopian world as their lives is monitored by the cc tvs. The cc tvs are from the government which is known as the ‘Big Brother’. Because of the control by the government, the life of that community is like in prison. They cannot do or even think about something that can give negative impacts to the government. We think that this kind of dystopian world that only can be portrayed through the literary works.

Again, as Muslims, we believe that only Allah the Almighty can create something that is beyond our eyes. We believe that dystopian life means the life in the hellfire. The hellfire is the perfect example of the dystopian concept created by Allah as a punishment for His ungrateful creatures. In brief, only Allah alone has the right and power to create the dystopian life that is beyond of our mind and eyes.
